As part of its ongoing sustainability initiatives and efforts to improve environmental performance, Bisotoun Steel has taken another important step toward establishing a culture of green production and environmental protection by eliminating single-use plastic containers and cups and strengthening its waste management system.
The initiative has been implemented under the supervision of the company’s HSE and Environmental Department, with the support of senior management, in line with the requirements of the ISO 14001 environmental management standard and the broader environmental policies of the Shokri Industrial Group. Accordingly, the use of single-use containers and cups has been discontinued across the company’s administrative, production, and service areas and replaced with durable, reusable, and washable alternatives. In addition to significantly reducing plastic consumption, this measure contributes to more efficient resource management and lower waste generation.
Alongside this initiative, the source separation of waste program at Bisotoun Steel has been expanded, with the collection, separation, and transfer of dry and wet waste being carried out under enhanced monitoring and supervision.
Specialized training programs for employees have also been introduced, focusing on reducing waste generation, proper waste separation, and responsible resource consumption. The objective is to make environmental protection an integral part of everyday organizational behavior.
Environmental assessments indicate that eliminating single-use containers can reduce the consumption of raw materials and energy while helping prevent plastic and microplastics from entering soil and water resources. Since plastic products may be used for only a few minutes but can persist in the environment for hundreds of years, reducing their consumption is considered one of the effective measures for protecting ecosystems and minimizing environmental pollution.
Implemented alongside Bisotoun Steel’s ongoing programs for pollution control, waste management, resource efficiency, and environmental performance improvement, this initiative reflects the company’s scientific and responsible approach to sustainable development.
Through this initiative, Bisotoun Steel has once again demonstrated that industrial development and increased production can go hand in hand with environmental protection and social responsibility—an approach that can contribute to a more sustainable future for industry, society, and generations to come.
